Cheers to the Dads

Today is Father’s Day. A day to honour the men of the world lucky enough to be called “Dad.”

So, cheers to the men who show up each and every day for their children.

Those tee-ball coaching, training wheel removing, hockey stick taping, soccer dads who happily allow their kids to spray them with a hose and practice their wrestling moves on them even though the risk of taking a knee to the balls is almost 100%.

To the men who hold down the fort financially while putting equal value on what their partners bring to the table in being home with their children. Or to those who take on the appropriate parenting responsibilities because their partners are taking on a significant load in the work force. And especially to the dads who are breaking the old norms and are staying home with their babies and loving it.

To the dads out there that teach their children how the mechanisms of how things work and willingly spend twice as long repairing the car because it means their children will have this skill later in life.

A big high-five to all the dads out there who have pulled off an amazing dad save. We salute you even if we have to relive the story, more extreme each time it's told, every time we meet fellow parenting friends for beers.

And of course lets not forget the men who are unable to hold their children today, or any day, for whatever reason that may be. We see you. You will forever be a father.

Lastly, cheers to the man who wears this badge of honour in our house. Who somehow manages to take on an insane work load and still be the absolute best father our children could ask for. Who chooses to sing our son to sleep because he values the one on one time and it was one of his best childhood memories. And who has the patience to read the same book over and over (and over) to our daughter when she refuses any other story.

You are our little mans real live superhero. Not a day goes by where he doesn't talk about how he wants to be just like you when he grows up. You are our baby girls favourite human. Her leg kicking, daddy screaming reaction when she hears your truck pulling up will forever be engrained in my heart.

There is nobody I would rather be navigating this parenting world with. You are everything to us.

To all you dads out there, for everything you do, thank-you.
