The San Juan River is stunning! It’s located on the way to Port Renfrew and it’s a favourite spot to camp and explore for the Spooner family. Carla asked if I’d be willing to meet them there. At first I was a bit leery as it’s a totally new location for me to shoot at and a little out of the ways. I wasn’t sure if I could get the timing right for the best light, etc. Anyways it was lovely! Carla and I communicated quite a bit before the session about outfits and normally I like to advise clients to choose more bland, basic, softer colours, however for this session, I felt like bold colours and those pops of teal blue and green would work quite well with the setting. Side note: Carla is a very busy and hardworking mother who doesn’t get the opportunity to shop for herself very often and she took the time to visit Swordfern Boutique in Lake Cowichan (which is already included in my style guide suggestions for businesses) and found the perfect romper, thanks to Arlene and a really cute butterfly necklace for herself! That makes me so happy. I always encourage moms to treat themselves before sessions. While we were at the river, the kids showed me the tadpoles, which was quite neat. Here are some favourites from this true-West Coast inspired session.
