Summer Minis, Lavender Farm Sessions

This year marked my third year offering family sessions at the Cowichan Valley Lavender Farm and Labyrinth on Wicks Road in Duncan. I fell in love with the farm the first time I visited it and I got really lucky to get to know the owners, who are extremely nice and outgoing people. Each year I take some photos of the lavender and their kids for them as well. This year, I decided to cut back on how many families I would take on for these sessions. This is something I will be starting to do more often with my minis, as when I overbook myself it's hard to make strong connections with clients. So typically I won't be meeting more than two or three families during an evening for example. I also extended my mini session time to 45 minutes if needed for a full family mini, as sometimes it can take almost that much time for little ones to warm up to me and the camera. For these sessions, my main focus was capturing those rich, ethereal portraits that I just love so much; photos with a soft touch and that also tell a story. In post-processing, I played around a bit with some matte edits, which funny enough is how I started out with all my editing three years ago (It was MATTE all the way!!!). I also noticed this year, there were quite a few other lavender sessions being offered by other photographers in the Cowichan Valley, which I'm not surprised about! It's beautiful, right! This just means for the next lavender season, I will be getting more creative and stepping up my game for my clients. Here are some favourites:
