Fall Minis, Maple Bay Manor

Many photographers have been talking about how vibrant the colours have been this Fall. It's true the pigment in the leaves has been so rich which I have been very thankful for, especially looking through the images of this year's Fall family mini sessions. Fall is a time of the year where I often remember to feel and voice my thankfulness more often. So for this post I am thankful for: 1. The beautiful colours as the seasons changed and Fall really swept through the Cowichan Valley (now here comes Winter!). 2. The most amazing clients and sweetest children I was able to capture. 3. Patient clients (as I had to reschedule quite a few families due to the rain. It paid off! We ended up with a gorgeous sunny day). 4. Finally relationships I've been able to build recently with fellow business owners.

One of my goals was to connect and work together closely with business owners for my mini sessions. For the Fall sessions, I did that in two ways. One of my friends who owns a fabulous second-hand shop and espresso bar, with Drumroaster coffee, vintage furniture, nicknacks and local art and products for sale, agreed to allow me to use any items from her shop to "style" my shoots. So for example, I borrowed a classic velvet beige chair, a smaller children's wood chair and some crates for the apples.

Sidetone: as a thank you, I handed out beautifully made tags from a local artist, Highberry Dew, which are available to buy at Scarlett's shop as well. If you haven't heard of Scarlett's shop in Lake Cowichan, please check out her Facebook page (those items you see in the photos might still be for sale).

The second business I connected with was Maple Bay Manor, the location for most of my mini sessions. A little birdie (actually the owner of the lavender farm which is another location I use for minis) told me to go check this property out. As soon as I drove up I knew it would be an amazing spot for photos all seasons. Old-growth trees, tons of greenery, open spaces overlooking Quamichan Lake, heavily-treed areas, a pond, bridge and old barns.... HELLO! The owner Lynn also invited me in for a tour inside the luxurious retreat and it's breathtaking. If you're ever thinking of having a night away, or if you know of anyone looking for the most fabulous wedding venue, send them there. Here are some favourites families have allowed me to share from the Fall sessions at MBM:
